The insanity of Kansas City Chiefs fans

So the Kansas City Chiefs won their home/season opener last night against a formidable opponent in the form of the San Diego Chargers. It was actually a really fun game to watch...until the chiefs actually won. Just at the bar alone I had probably a hand full of people come up to stating that it feels good to be in first place in the division...after week 1. Then, I get on Facebook and my news feed is littered with crazy fans talking about Super Bowl pipe dreams...after week 1. My question is this? Why do people throw so much emotion and concentrated time into sports team? I mean, I love sports and there are a few teams that I specifically follow, but at the end of the day, my life really isn't affected if they win or lose. It is an interesting phenomenon across the globe. Overseas it is all about Futball but the same principle applies. I don't have any answers, I just found myself interested in the concept. so..that's all I have to say about it. You?

  1. So you are telling me that when the Boston won the series and you were there and got to experience all of that, you didn't feel as if you life was effected by it? You don't think Dad was effected being able to go see Yankee Stadium in NY with Isaac a few years back? I agree that sports can get out of control but think of it...True Chiefs fans get to bask in their glory bc it comes few and far between. And other countries live for futbol because yes a win or lose does effect them. Its their "brighter" tomorrow etc. Some people are greatly effected by a team winning or losing. Especially the players.

  2. It's a perspective thing. Can you cheer like a maniac for your team, bask in the glory of a win or wallow in a crushing defeat without it altering your day to day? If your answer is yes, then I think that's pretty normal. If you can't seem to function based on how your team is performing, then you may need a little perspective. :) It's just a game!
That being said, it was SUPER annoying to hear everyone talk Super Bowl, division title, blah, blah, blah. Really, people?

  3. That's all I am saying Sarah. It was week 1!!! Now we are here at the end of Week 3 and they are 3-0. Exciting right? Not really, they have 12 more games ahead of them. Grace...I don't even know what say about your Red Sox comparison...I don't think you remember the coming back from being down 0-3 in the ALCS to the Yankees(Never been done before), Big Papi's game winning homer, after game winning homer. I can't even explain it...more importantly, it wasn't opening day when all the excitement swelled. I feel bad for Chief's fans. I am actually rooting for them to do well this year so their fan's can have a legit reason to brag in public. I guess we will see though...
